My name is Anthony Winn.
I am currently incarcerated within the Virginia Department of Corrections, at Dillwyn Correctional Center.
In 1997, I committed several armed robbery offenses, and I received a total sentence of 36 years.
Since day one I've admitted my guilt and remorse. I dedicated my life toward change. Of course it wasn't an easy task, given that prison is an institution that resists change.
Prison is a world that has its own gravity that pushes and pulls, yet I am still standing firm.
I am very proud of who I've become and what I've survived. But still, more work is required. I've grown comfortable with knowing my strengths and weaknesses, but now I believe my gifts I present have surpassed prison.
My story and voice can be used to transform people's attitudes about prison reform. This can be looked at in a two step process.
First, by compiling good examples from resilient individuals in prison, as well as those who exceed the expectations and stereotypes of the willful blind and the active ignorant. I consider myself as a torch bearer shining my brilliance.
The second step is providing a platform where we can share success stories and useful resources.
My intention is to highlight the positive impact of a second chance.
